Job description

Lifestyle Assistants | Complex Support | Multiple Casual Roles

We’re a not for profit disability support provider with a big heart and a belief that life is better when we do it together.

Everyone’s story is different. We celebrate those differences and support people to build meaningful connections, make their own choices and live a life that matters to them.

We’re people supporting people, and we’re looking for experienced and dedicated Lifestyle Assistants to join our growing team.

About the role

You’ll provide support centred on each person and their individual needs. This may include supporting people with complex support needs, psychosocial disability and behaviours of concern.

You’ll work across Supported Independent Living, depending on the role and each person’s support requirements.

Our services operate seven days a week. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, active overnight shifts and sleepovers.

If you bring compassion, remain calm under pressure and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supporting people with personal care, household tasks, daily routines, community participation and meaningful activities.
  • Building respectful relationships that promote dignity, choice, privacy, safety and independence.
  • Following individual support plans, health and allied health plans and behaviour support plans.
  • Providing higher intensity supports only within your training, demonstrated competence and each person’s individual support requirements.
  • Completing accurate and timely progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
  • Recognising and promptly escalating changes in wellbeing, safety concerns, incidents and suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Communicating clearly with colleagues, health professionals and each person’s support network.
  • Following the NDIS Code of Conduct, NDIS Practice Standards and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Where a behaviour support plan includes regulated restrictive practices, following all applicable authorisation, training, implementation and reporting requirements. Great Mates is committed to reducing and eliminating restrictive practices.
What we’re looking for
  • At least 12 months of paid experience supporting people with disability, including people with complex support needs, psychosocial disability or behaviours of concern.
  • A Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), or another relevant qualification.
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills.
  • A calm, respectful and professional approach.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to ongoing learning.
  • The ability to follow plans, complete documentation and work safely as part of a team.
  • Availability across a seven day roster, including weekends, active overnight shifts and sleepovers.
What you’ll need
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • A current Working with Children Check appropriate to the state and role.
  • Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
  • A willingness to complete all required induction and participant specific training, and demonstrate competence before providing supports.
What’s in it for you
  • A Higher Intensity Allowance when working in eligible complex support roles.
  • Access to salary packaging of up to $15,900 for living expenses, plus up to $2,650 for meal entertainment each FBT year.
  • Unlimited 24/7 online access to doctors registered with AHPRA for you and your children.
  • Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development.
  • Genuine opportunities for long term career progression.
  • A supportive culture grounded in our values, where people are genuinely valued.
  • Applicable award entitlements in addition to any eligible above award allowance.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people with disability.

Everyone needs a Great Mate. We hope you’ll join us on the journey.

  • Benefits are subject to eligibility, provider arrangements, organisational policies and individual circumstances.
