Job summary

Girton Grammar School in regional Victoria is seeking a Library Technician to join the Junior School Library team. This term-time-only role includes two weeks callback and focuses on helping students access resources, lending, cataloguing and maintaining the library space.

You will work closely with the Library Teacher, support reading programs and book clubs, and provide friendly, respectful service to students and staff.

Qualifications

• Library Technician qualification or relevant experience.
• Experience in a school or public library environment is preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, staff and families.
• Strong organisational skills to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and staff with locating and accessing resources.

Job description

Girton Grammar School is seeking a vibrant, organised and enthusiastic Library Technician to join our Junior School Library team, term time only with 2 weeks callback.

This is an exciting opportunity for a person who enjoys working with primary-aged children and is passionate about fostering a love of reading, learning and discovery. Working closely with the Library Teacher, the successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Library, assisting students and staff to access resources, and contributing to a welcoming and engaging learning environment.

About the Role

The Junior School Library Technician is responsible for supporting the effective operation of the Library through a combination of customer service, resource management and administrative tasks. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting students and staff with locating and accessing resources.
• Managing the lending and return of library resources.
• Cataloguing, processing and maintaining library collections.
• Reshelving and maintaining the presentation and organisation of the Library.
• Managing resource booking systems and library inventories.
• Assisting with book clubs, story time programs and reading challenges.
• Supporting students in a friendly, respectful and engaging manner.
• Providing administrative support, including answering enquiries, processing resources and maintaining equipment.

About You

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Library Technician qualifications or relevant experience.
• Previous experience in a school or public library environment.
