Job summary

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is seeking a Technical Specialist Physical Collections to lead the development and management of our nine-branch physical collections. You will provide expert guidance, train staff and use data-informed planning to ensure collections meet community needs and complement digital resources.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Library and Information Science enabling eligibility for ALIA professional membership.
• Working With Children Check
• Experience in developing and managing physical collections including selection, evaluation and deselection.
• Awareness of inclusive, diverse publishing practices for equitable representation.
• Experience delivering training programs related to collection management processes.
• Experience contributing to development and review of collection strategies, policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated financial management, budgeting, monitoring and procurement compliance.
• Experience establishing partnerships and negotiating contracts with library suppliers.
• Ability to analyse data and apply insights to improve collection quality and user experience.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication with strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to lead, engage and inspire teams to achieve community outcomes.
• Proficiency in library management systems and troubleshooting.
• Commitment to customer service excellence and community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage and improve physical library collections across nine branches with expert advice on selection and deselection.
• Monitor, analyse and report on collection performance to inform budgeting and resource allocation.
• Deliver training and professional support to build staff capability in collection management.
• Collaborate with branch staff, leadership, the eServices team and suppliers to align physical and digital collections.
• Manage collection budgets, procurement activities and supplier relationships to deliver value for money.
• Utilise Library Management System to support reporting, workflows and issue resolution.
• Develop, review and maintain collection policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
