Salary Package: Lecturer (Level B) $127,138 to $150,425 per annum plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

Appointment Type: Full-time, continuing (part-time may be considered for the right candidate)

THE ROLE

Macquarie School of Education is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in the Science of Learning and Effective Pedagogy to contribute to the development, leadership and delivery of initial teacher education. The focus of the role is the application of the science of learning across the primary and secondary phases of our initial teacher education courses, helping our teacher education students understand both the principles and practices of learning-science-informed effective pedagogy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to pedagogy, curriculum and learning resource development across initial teacher education courses.
  • Design, deliver and manage teaching and assessment, including lectures, tutorials and high-quality professional learning for in-service teachers.
  • Provide leadership in our teaching of the Strong Beginnings core content areas, 'brain and learning' and 'effective pedagogical practices'.
  • Engage in leadership and scholarship related to teacher education.
  • Model inclusive teaching that recognises intersectional inequities and responds to the varied needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Contribute to Initial Teacher Education course leadership, administration and staff professional development.

ABOUT YOU

You are an accredited primary or secondary teacher (NSW or equivalent) and have a strong track record and/or current experience of leading curriculum and pedagogy development and delivering excellent evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. You have expertise in one or more NSW syllabus and have proven capacity to lead our teaching of the Strong Beginnings core content ‘brain and learning’ and ‘effective pedagogical practices’ areas. You are a clear communicator with a proactive, adaptable approach, and you enjoy working as part of a team, bringing well-developed interpersonal, organisational and time-management skills.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Accredited teacher (NSW or equivalent) and sustained experience of effective teaching in contemporary primary or secondary schools.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of relevant NSW curriculum.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Strong Beginnings core content areas 1 and 2.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the science of learning and evidence-based pedagogy, along with a commitment and capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated capacity or potential for delivering high-quality teaching for teacher education students, including the design, delivery, and management of lectures, tutorials, and assessments and high-quality professional learning for in-service teachers.
  • Demonstrated capacity to model how to teach inclusively, recognising intersectional inequities and barriers to learning and responding to the needs of students with diverse identifications, learning needs, and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to Initial Teacher Education course leadership.
  • Track‑record of making positive contributions, or capacity to contribute, to administration and /or staff professional development in a University or education setting.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, resilience, and team‑work capabilities.
