Qualifications

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Computing, or a closely related discipline.

Macquarie University is seeking an outstanding academic to join the School of Computing in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

This is an open-rank appointment, with the successful candidate appointed at Lecturer (Level B), Senior Lecturer (Level C), or Associate Professor (Level D) depending on their qualifications, experience, academic achievements and leadership profile.

We are particularly interested in candidates undertaking ambitious, high-quality and impactful research, with the potential to strengthen and expand the School's research capabilities and contribute to its national and international profile.

The successful candidate will contribute to research, teaching and academic service appropriate to their level of appointment. This may include developing, teaching and convening undergraduate and postgraduate units, supervising Higher Degree Research students, building research collaborations, attracting external research funding, engaging with industry and government, and contributing to academic leadership within the School, Faculty and University.

About Us

You will be joining a growing School of Computing in the Faculty of Science and Engineering with a fast-rising international reputation.

The School is home to more than 60 academic staff, over 150 research students, and close to 3,500 undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. It offers a broad range of contemporary undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has a strong and growing research culture.

The School provides a collaborative environment in which academics are encouraged to pursue ambitious research agendas, develop interdisciplinary and industry partnerships, contribute to innovative teaching, and build internationally recognised academic careers.

About You – Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will be an ambitious and collegial academic with a strong commitment to research and education. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate achievement and potential relative to their career stage and the academic level for which they are being considered.

Selection Criteria – All Applicants (Levels B, C and D)

Applicants at all levels should demonstrate:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Computing, or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong and coherent research program in one or more areas of contemporary Computer Science.
  • A high-quality research publication record, relative to career stage and opportunity, demonstrated through publications in respected international journals, conferences or other recognised scholarly venues appropriate to the candidate's field.
  • Evidence of the quality, originality, significance or potential impact of their research.
  • Demonstrated capability and commitment to delivering high-quality and innovative teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
  • Capacity to contribute to curriculum development and teaching in areas relevant to the School's undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  • Evidence of the ability to supervise, or the potential to successfully supervise, Higher Degree Research students.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop research collaborations within academia and/or with industry, government or other external partners.
  • Evidence of success, or clear potential for success, in attracting external research funding appropriate to career stage.
  • High-level oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, academic and professional staff, collaborators and external stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated commitment to contributing positively to an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing academic environment.

Industry engagement, interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, entrepreneurship, translation or demonstrated research impact beyond academia will be highly regarded.

Additional Selection Criteria – Associate Professor (Level D)

Candidates seeking appointment at Associate Professor (Level D) should, in addition to the criteria above, demonstrate:

  • A distinguished and internationally recognised research profile, with a sustained record of outstanding scholarly achievement, research influence and impact.
  • A substantial record of research leadership, including leadership of significant research programs, teams, centres, networks or major collaborative initiatives.
  • A strong record of attracting and leading significant external research funding from competitive, government, industry or other sources.
  • A strong record of successful Higher Degree Research supervision and research mentorship, including demonstrated contribution to developing research students, early-career academics and research capability.
  • Significant academic leadership in areas such as research strategy, education, curriculum, academic programs, organisational development, external engagement or professional leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic collaborations with leading national and international researchers, industry, government and/or other external partners.
  • Evidence of a strong national and international standing in the candidate's discipline and the capacity to enhance the research reputation, visibility and impact of the School of Computing and Macquarie University.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide intellectual and academic leadership and to contribute strategically to the future development of the School.
