Job summary

The University of Newcastle is seeking a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Design to join the School of Engineering at Callaghan Campus.

You will contribute to teaching, research, and industry engagement, developing an impactful research program, collaborating with partners, and supporting student teams in complex design and prototyping projects.

Qualifications

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong research track record with quality publications.
• Experience securing external research funding.
• Experience supervising honours, masters, or HDR students.
• Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing, CAD, and Mechanical Engineering Design.

Salary: $121,329 – $144,079 plus 17% superannuation plus annual leave loading

Position: Full-time, continuing

Location: Callaghan Campus

About the Role

The University of Newcastle is seeking a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Design to join the School of Engineering.

You will contribute to teaching, research, and industry engagement, helping strengthen our Advanced Manufacturing capability across areas including digital design, additive and subtractive manufacturing, prototyping, fabrication, and product development.

The successful candidate will develop an impactful research program, collaborate with industry and government partners, and support student engineering teams by providing expertise in complex design, prototyping, and manufacturing challenges.

About You

You are an innovative and forward-thinking academic with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Design, looking to contribute to a collaborative teaching and research environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A strong research track record, including quality publications and emerging recognition.
• Demonstrated success in securing, or contributing to the acquisition of, competitive external research funding.
• Experience supervising honours, master's, and/or Higher Degree by Research students.
• Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with expertise in Advanced Manufacturing, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Mechanical Engineering Design.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, students, industry, and community partners.
• A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
