Job description

Salary & Roles
  • Salary package: $127,138 - $150,425 (Level B.1 – B.6) plus 17% employer's superannuation contribution and annual leave loading.
  • Three full-time, continuing roles.
  • Based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.

The School of Engineering is seeking three dynamic, early-to-mid-career rising stars to join us as Lecturers (Level B). We have the flexibility to appoint across Civil, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. These roles are full-time, continuing (tenure-track) positions, based at our Wallumattagal (North Ryde) Campus in Sydney.

We are looking for outstanding academics who bridge the gap between engineering theory and practical execution. While academic rigor is essential, we are explicitly looking for individuals who know how to build engineering artifacts. You possess strong practical engineering skills, a passion for prototyping, design, or implementation, and the ability to inspire students through hands‑on, project‑based education. In these roles, you will contribute to our rapidly growing undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, and develop an impactful, independent research profile that translates innovative ideas into tangible, real‑world solutions.

About Us

The School of Engineering at Macquarie University is rapidly expanding the capacity and impact of its research and education frameworks. As a comprehensive school, our expertise spans civil, environmental, mechanical, mechatronic, biomedical, electrical, and electronic engineering. This year, we established our operations in a brand-new, $150 million education and research precinct: the Engineering Innovation Building. This facility features state‑of‑the‑art spaces designed specifically for immersive, team‑based design and manufacturing projects, alongside specialist laboratories hosting our highly‑ranked research groups. As part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), we nurture the next generation of technology innovators, supporting nearly 9,000 students across our programs. Our research and teaching directly address the critical challenges faced by global society—including infrastructure resilience, autonomous systems, future materials, and sustainable energy.

Essential Criteria (Lecturer Level B)
  • A PhD in Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on engineering skills with a track record of physical prototyping, experimental system design, field testing, or practical project execution.
  • Evidence of capability to design and deliver engaging, high‑quality, project‑led learning experiences that develop both the technical and practical competencies of engineering students.
  • A developing or established track record of quality publications and a clear trajectory for securing external research funding or industry partnerships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplinary boundaries and work with industry partners.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University has a goal to increase the engagement of women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people from diverse backgrounds in STEMM roles. Applications are considered holistically, and candidates are encouraged to apply even if their experience does not meet each individual selection criterion.

  • *This position requires a criminal history and qualifications check.

Applications Close: Sunday 18th of October at 11:59pm (AEST). We reserve the right to progress or decline an application prior to the application closing date.
