Job summary

The Australian National University’s School of Sociology invites applications for an Academic Level B position. The appointee will contribute to global sociology, postcolonial studies, and sociology of inequalities, with teaching duties across multiple courses and supervision of honours and PhD students.

The role is a full-time fixed-term up to three years, with a salary package of AU$124,638–AU$141,317 per year plus 17% superannuation.

The Position

We seek applicants with a demonstrated capacity to contribute to one or more of the following areas: global sociology; postcolonial studies and/or sociology of ethnicity; sociology of inequalities, economy and/or development; public sociology; social research methods.

The Person

The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication in sociology, in acquiring external funding and in delivering innovative and high-quality education. The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching and convenorship in at least two of the following courses:

• Social Inequalities and Development
• Economy and Society
• Transforming Society

They will be also expected to undertake high-quality research relevant to their field of expertise, contribute to the supervision of Honours and PhD students, work collegially with members of the ANU community, undertake suitable service tasks, and engage in impact and engagement activities.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of six Colleges at ANU.
