Job summary

The Australian National University invites applications for an Academic Level B position in Sociology. The appointee will contribute to research across global sociology and related areas, and participate in teaching and programme leadership within Sociology.

The successful candidate will publish and secure external funding, supervise postgraduate students, and engage with the ANU community and public scholarship. The role is a fixed‑term, full‑time appointment based in Canberra.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated capacity to contribute to global sociology, postcolonial studies and/or sociology of ethnicity.
• Experience in social research methods and in delivering education.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to teaching and convenorship in at least two courses: Social Inequalities and Development; Economy and Society; Transforming Society.
• Undertake high-quality research, supervise honours and PhD students, and engage in impact activities.

Salary package: $124,638 - $141,317 per annum plus 17% superannuation

Terms: Full time, Fixed term (up to 3 years)

The Position

We seek applicants with a demonstrated capacity to contribute to one or more of the following areas: global sociology; postcolonial studies and/or sociology of ethnicity; sociology of inequalities, economy and/or development; public sociology; social research methods.

The Person

The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication in sociology, in acquiring external funding and in delivering innovative and high-quality education. The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching and convenorship in at least two of the following courses:

• Social Inequalities and Development
• Economy and Society
• Transforming Society

They will be also expected to undertake high-quality research relevant to their field of expertise, contribute to the supervision of Honours and PhD students, work collegially with members of the ANU community, undertake suitable service tasks, and engage in impact and engagement activities.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of six Colleges at ANU.
