Job summary

St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, Dunedoo is seeking a School Support Officer (LSO) on a temporary part-time basis commencing ASAP. The role is 20 hours per week with some variation to meet student needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-class support for teachers and students with learning needs.
• Support and supervise students with additional learning needs in and out of the classroom.
• Facilitate remedial reading programs (MacqLit and Reading Recovery) and remedial Mathematics programs (QuickSmarty).
• Assist with data collection and maintenance for legislative compliance (NCCD).
• Perform administrative tasks in support of NCCD and disability provisions.
• Input into planning and implementation of Personal Learning Plans.
• Collaborate with teachers to include all students in learning experiences.
• Apply behaviour management strategies to maintain a supportive learning environment.
• Assist with programs involving speech and occupation therapy with teachers and allied health professionals.

About the Role

St Michael’s Catholic Primary School in Dunedoo has an exciting opportunity for a School Support Officer (LSO) to join the team on a temporary basis in 2026 and onward. The role will be a part time position where the hours may slightly vary based on students’ needs. 20 hours per week (5 hours /4 days per week).

• Providing in-class support for teachers and their students with learning needs
• Supporting and supervising students with additional learning needs in and out of the classroom environment
• Facilitating the remedial reading program (MacqLit and Reading Recovery). Experience is desirable, we can provide training.
• Facilitating the remedial Mathematics program (QuickSmarty). Experience is desirable, we can provide training.
• Assisting with data collection and maintenance for legislative compliance (NCCD)
• Administrative tasks in support of NCCD and disability provisions
• Input into the planning and implementation of Personal Learning Plans
• Collaborating with classroom teachers to ensure the inclusion of all students in all learning experiences
• Applying appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive learning environment
• Implement other programs. This could include working with teachers and allied health professionals to implement individual speech and occupation therapy programs and strategies.

About You

We are looking for someone who is able to address the following selection criteria:

• The desire to engage with and contribute to a Catholic learning organisation
• Experience and effectiveness as a Learning Support Officer, School Support Officer, Teacher’s Aide or equivalent
• A capacity to work collegially and collaborate within a diverse team.
• sound communication and organisational skills, punctuality and adaptability.
• Sound personal skills that include patience, understanding and perseverance
• characteristics that provide a positive role model to students at the school both in their professional and personal life.
• Sound IT and technology skills.
• Hold Certificate III in School Based Education Support or above, or be working towards a tertiary degree in education (completed, completing or enrolled)
