Job summary

St Columba's Catholic Primary School in Yeoval is seeking a Learning Support Officer to join the team on a temporary, part-time basis during 2026. The role supports the classroom teacher and students with learning needs, including in-class assistance, data collection for NCCD, and planning Personal Learning Plans.

You should hold a Certificate III in School Based Education Support or be working towards an education degree, have strong communication and organisational skills, and enjoy

• Experience as LSO, SSO, or Teacher's Aide or equivalent.
• Ability to support learning needs in diverse classrooms.
• Experience collecting data for NCCD and related processes.
• Strong communication and organisational skills in a school setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-class support for teachers and students with learning needs.
• Support and supervise students with additional learning needs in and out of the classroom.
• Facilitate the remedial reading program (MacqLit).
• Assist with data collection and maintenance for NCCD.
• Administrative tasks in support of NCCD and disability provisions.
• Input into the planning and implementation of Personal Learning Plans.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure inclusion of all students.
• Apply behaviour management strategies for a supportive learning environment.

About the Role

St Columba's Catholic Primary School has an exciting opportunity for a Learning Support Officer to join the team on a temporary basis in 2026. The role will be a part time position where the hours may slightly vary based on students’ needs.

The Learning Support Officer will support the classroom teacher in delivering high-quality instruction to students in a Catholic School setting. The role will involve:

Providing in-class support for teachers and their students with learning needs

Supporting and supervising students with additional learning needs in and out of the classroom environment

Facilitating the remedial reading program (MacqLit)

Assisting with data collection and maintenance for legislative compliance (NCCD)

Administrative tasks in support of NCCD and disability provisions

Input into the planning and implementation of Personal Learning Plans

Collaborating with classroom teachers to ensure the inclusion of all students in all learning experiences

Applying appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive learning environment

About You (Selection Criteria)

We are looking for someone who is able to address the following selection criteria:

• The desire to engage with and contribute to a Catholic learning organisation
• Experience and effectiveness as a Learning Support Officer, School Support Officer, Teacher’s Aide or equivalent
• A capacity to work collegially and collaborate within a diverse team.
• Sound communication and organisational skills, punctuality and adaptability.
• Sound personal skills that include patience, understanding and perseverance
• characteristics that provide a positive role model to students at the school both in their professional and personal life.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, punctuality and adaptability
• Hold Certificate III in School Based Education Support or above, or be working towards a tertiary degree in education (completed, completing or enrolled)
