Job summary

Cogent Resources is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Carpenter to oversee day-to-day site operations on our Sydney-area projects. You will lead a small team of carpenters, labourers and apprentices while performing hands-on carpentry tasks and ensuring quality and safety standards.

The role requires a minimum of 2 years in a leadership carpentry position, a Certificate IV in Carpentry and Joinery, and a strong ability to read plans and coordinate activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a Leading Hand Carpenter or equivalent construction leadership role.
• Certificate IV in Carpentry and Joinery is required.
• Class C Driver's Licence and White Card (Prepare to Work Safely) are necessary.
• Supervisory experience or accreditation is advantageous.
• Strong WHS knowledge and safe work practices are essential.
• Ability to read plans and accurately set out works.
• Excellent communication and proactive approach are expected.
• Experience with or licences in operating site machinery (Bobcat, excavator, crane) are valued.

Job description

Our client is an established construction business specialising in quality new-build projects across Sydney. They are seeking an experienced Leading Hand Carpenter to join their team and help manage day-to-day site operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can lead by example, coordinate a small team and maintain high standards of quality and safety.

Working closely with the Site Manager, you will lead and support carpenters, labourers, apprentices and trades while also carrying out hands-on carpentry and building duties.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting a small site team
• Undertaking general carpentry and building duties
• Coordinating daily site activities and ensuring deadlines are met
• Reading and working from current plans and drawings
• Setting out works, gridlines and levels accurately
• Monitoring workmanship, quality and productivity
• Coordinating trades and maintaining an organised worksite
• Operating tools, plant and equipment safely
• Assisting with site setup and pack-down
• Participating in toolbox talks and site communication
• Identifying and addressing WHS hazards
• Ensuring SWMS, PPE and safety procedures are followed
• Managing materials, tools and equipment
• Supporting and mentoring apprentices and team members

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a Leading Hand Carpenter, senior carpenter or in a similar construction leadership role.

• You will also have:
• Certificate IV in Carpentry and Joinery
• Class C Driver's Licence
• White Card – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
• Minimum 2 years' relevant construction experience
• Proven ability to lead and coordinate a small team
• Supervisory accreditation or relevant supervisory experience
• Strong understanding of WHS and safe work practices
• Ability to read plans and accurately set out works
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Excellent communication and a proactive approach
• Highly regarded: Experience or licences in Bobcat, excavator, dogman/crane operation, traffic control or site setup, plus a First Aid Certificate.
