Job summary

Motion Engineering & Services’ Acacia Ridge workshop in Queensland is seeking a Workshop Leading Hand to lead a skilled team through maintenance and repair of pumps, mixers and rotating equipment. The role involves hands-on fitting, planning, and direct supervision of daily activities, with scope to travel to customer sites as needed.

The ideal candidate brings mechanical fitting experience, team leadership, strong problem-solving skills and a proactive safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Experience in a mechanical fitting, maintenance or workshop environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team in a workshop or maintenance setting.
• Strong knowledge of pumps, mechanical seals and other rotating equipment.
• Experience with equipment overhauls, bearing replacements, shaft alignment and fault-finding.
• Sound understanding of maintenance planning, job scheduling, labor allocation and materials management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
• Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
• A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and customers.
• Willingness to travel to work on customer sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the workshop team in completing fitting, maintenance and repair activities.
• Allocate and coordinate labour, materials and daily job priorities to minimise delays and costs.
• Supervise planned, unplanned and emerging maintenance work.
• Perform hands-on mechanical fitting duties, including equipment inspections, fault-finding, repairs and overhauls.
• Support repairs to pumps, mixers, bearings, mechanical seals and other rotating equipment.
• Ensure accurate job scoping, estimates, timeframes and maintenance documentation are completed.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work is completed in line with Company health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Assist with team rostering, workflow planning and development of workshop personnel.
