Kapsch is hiring a Lead Systems Engineer to drive two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. You will lead the technical delivery, guide a globally distributed team, and coordinate with customers, suppliers and internal groups to ensure on-time, on-budget outcomes.

Required are 7+ years in systems engineering/project management, ITS/ATMS experience (tunnel SCADA, CCTV, traffic monitoring) and strong English skills, with international travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent).
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering and project delivery.
• Experience delivering ITS/ATMS projects, including tunnel systems and CCTV/monitoring.
• Passport and ability to travel internationally as required by project needs.
• Advanced level of English language is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel ITS projects in Australia as Lead Systems Engineer.
• Provide technical leadership to a dispersed, multicultural team across the project lifecycle.
• Coordinate execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, and customers.
• Serve as the primary technical contact ensuring solutions meet contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with Project Manager on planning, risk, and governance activities.
• Lead systems engineering activities including requirements analysis, integration, testing, verification and validation.
• Support customer engagement with technical workshops and change discussions.
• Prepare proposals, estimates and technical documentation for Change Requests.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the delivery of two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for systems engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system integration, testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in delivering reliable, high-performance tunnel control and traffic management solutions that support the safe and efficient operation of critical transport infrastructure.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel projects in Australia, acting as the Lead Systems Engineer and ensuring successful end-to-end execution.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team, ensuring project delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Coordinate project execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers, and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the customer, taking ownership of the proposed solution and ensuring it meets contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders in planning, risk management, issue resolution, and project governance activities.
• Lead systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, solution definition, systems integration, verification, validation, and technical risk management.
• Support customer engagement activities, including technical workshops, presentations, and discussions related to project delivery and change management.
• Provide commercial support in the preparation of proposals, estimates, and technical documentation for Change Requests and project enhancements.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering/project management in a project delivery organization across both systems and software delivery.
• Experience in the delivery of Intelligent Transportation Systems, or Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
• Relevant ITS/ATMS experience should include tunnel SCADA, tunnel control systems, traffic detection and monitoring, CCTV, incident detection, incident response, decision support, traffic data processing and reporting.
• Advanced level of English language.
• Applicants should be available for travel based on project requirements, including international travel, as such a passport is required.
