Job summary

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join our Melbourne team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will manage servers, virtualisation platforms, networks and storage while ensuring security and patching alignment across locations.

You’ll participate in a 24/7 on-call roster, drive improvements, and work with internal teams and vendors to keep systems reliable and compliant with ITIL practices.

Qualifications

• Tertiary IT qualification and 5+ years in infrastructure or systems administration.
• Experience with Windows Server environments, virtualisation, network concepts and security basics.
• Ability to manage backups, monitoring and incident response in live environments.

Responsibilities

• Act as Level 2 escalation for infrastructure troubleshooting and remediation.
• Lead security hardening, vulnerability management and patching cycles.
• Manage servers, VMs, storage, networks and supporting software.
• Maintain IT hardware across multiple locations and update system manuals.
• Provide after-hours support and participate in a 24/7 on-call roster.
• Coordinate with vendors for renewals, licenses and certificates.

We have an incredible opportunity for an experienced **Systems Administrator** to join our team in **Melbourne** on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will manage complex and exciting projects at the cutting edge of technology in the transport industry space. **How you'll make an impact** * Act as the Level 2 escalation point for infrastructure troubleshooting, diagnostics, and remediation.* Serve as Subject Matter Expert for security hardening, vulnerability management, baselining cycles, and commercial software upgrades.* Manage and maintain servers, virtual machines, hypervisors, storage systems, networks, and supporting software.* Configure and maintain IT hardware infrastructure across multiple operational locations.* Ensure systems remain aligned with cybersecurity requirements, patching schedules, and certificate management processes.* Define, maintain, and update system manuals, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.* Report on system performance, infrastructure status, and security updates for operational management review.* Diagnose and resolve hardware or software failures; coordinate with internal teams and external vendors as required.* Participate in planning, establishment and scoping of new system implementations or operational transitions.* Manage support renewals, licences, certificates, and third-party vendor engagements.* Promote best practices and identify technical and operational improvement opportunities.* Provide occasional after-hours support to assist RSS teams with urgent or critical incidents that require escalation.* Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call roster to maintain operational readiness when needed. **What Makes You a Great Fit** * Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar (preferred).* 5+ years’ experience in an infrastructure, systems administration, or technical operations role.* Hands-on experience configuring, managing and supporting: + Windows Servers + Virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware) + Networks (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VLANs, routing/security concepts) + Backup, recovery and monitoring systems* Understanding of security fundamentals, vulnerability management, patching and certificates.* OT knowledge/working in the field with edge devices.* Experience in high-availability or operationally critical environments (desired).* ITIL Foundation or relevant vendor certifications (preferred).* Strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to work independently in a live operational environment.* Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotational roster and respond after hours when needed. **What We Offer** * Hybrid and supportive Team Environment* Participation in a 24/7 on-call roster and occasional after-hours support to address urgent maintenance needs.* Continuous Learning through various platforms* Access to EAP for the employee and family members 24/7* International career website - Opportunity to grow within our team or beyond* Paid Birthday Leave* Christmas Special Leave* Company-sponsored social activities and end-of-year activities **Take the next step in your career with Kapsch.
