Job summary

Kapsch seeks an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to drive two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. You will lead technical delivery, oversee requirements analysis, systems integration, verification and risk management, coordinating with internal teams and partners.

You will mentor a multicultural team, serve as the customer technical lead, ensure compliance with contractual and operational requirements, and drive end-to-end system engineering across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
• 7+ years in system engineering and project delivery within a PMO.
• Experience delivering ITS/ATMS, tunnel systems, CCTV and incident management.
• Advanced English language skills.
• Willingness to travel internationally on project needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel ITS projects in Australia.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed team.
• Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers and stakeholders.
• Serve as primary technical contact ensuring contractual and operational requirements are met.
• Collaborate with Project Manager on planning, risk management, and governance.
• Lead systems engineering activities across requirements, integration, verification and risk management.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the delivery of two major tunnel ITS projects in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for system engineering activities across the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, system integration, testing, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in delivering reliable, high-performance tunnel control and traffic management solutions that support the safe and efficient operation of critical transport infrastructure.

How you'll make an impact

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel projects in Australia, acting as the Lead Systems Engineer and ensuring successful end-to-end execution.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team, ensuring project delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Coordinate project execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers, and other key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the customer, taking ownership of the proposed solution and ensuring it meets contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional stakeholders in planning, risk management, issue resolution, and project governance activities.
• Lead systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, solution definition, systems integration, verification, validation, and technical risk management.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in system engineering/project management in a project delivery organization across both systems and software delivery.
• Experience in the delivery of Intelligent Transportation Systems, or Advanced Traffic Management Systems.
• Relevant ITS/ATMS experience should include tunnel SCADA, tunnel control systems, traffic detection and monitoring, CCTV, incident detection, incident response, decision support, traffic data processing and reporting.
• Advanced level of English language.
• Applicants should be available for travel based on project requirements, including international travel, as such a passport is required.
