Job summary

Based in Perth, PERSOL is seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to lead Solar PV engineering across the full lifecycle, from evaluation through construction and commissioning. The role requires strong technical leadership and expert knowledge of Solar PV design and Australian standards.

The successful candidate will be a Solar PV SME, delivering engineering leadership, technical reviews and project support for renewable energy and decarbonisation projects.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary Engineering qualification in Electrical or Renewable Engineering.
  • Experience in detailed Solar PV power plant engineering and design.
  • Knowledge of Solar PV component technology, project and solar resource evaluation, design methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, particularly electrical and renewable energy standards.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within tight project timeframes.
  • Demonstrated capability to provide technical leadership to other engineers.

  • Lead detailed engineering and design activities for Solar PV projects.
  • Undertake site identification, assessment and technical evaluation.
  • Support solar resource monitoring and data assessment.
  • Lead Solar PV plant design and technology assessment/selection.
  • Develop plant generation and power profile forecasts.
  • Develop Solar PV engineering procedures, specifications, standards and processes.
  • Coordinate design activities, including integration of new products and technologies.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake technical risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Provide engineering support throughout construction and commissioning.

Our Tier 1 Mining Client is looking for an experienced Lead Project Engineer to join a major project environment supporting the development and delivery of renewable energy and decarbonisation projects.

Roster: 5/2 Perth CBD

Start date: ASAP

Duration: approx. 12 months - depending on client requirements

Pay Rate: $100.00 p/h + Super depending on experience

The Role

Based in Perth, this role will lead detailed engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, from evaluation and development through construction, commissioning and operational support. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in utility-scale Solar PV engineering and design and provide technical leadership across current and future projects.

Working within the Engineering and Projects function, you will act as a Solar PV subject matter expert, providing engineering leadership, technical review and project support.

Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Lead detailed engineering and design activities for Solar PV projects.
  • Undertake site identification, assessment and technical evaluation.
  • Support solar resource monitoring and resource data assessment.
  • Lead Solar PV plant design and technology assessment/selection.
  • Develop plant generation and power profile forecasts.
  • Develop Solar PV engineering procedures, specifications, standards and processes.
  • Analyse operational plant and equipment performance.
  • Provide Solar PV subject matter expertise and engineering peer review.
  • Support development of project estimates for investment decision-making.
  • Coordinate and manage design activities, including integration of new products and technologies.
  • Ensure engineering solutions meet relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake technical risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Develop equipment and services scopes of work and support procurement activities.
  • Provide engineering support throughout construction and commissioning.
  • Support performance testing of Solar PV components.
  • Provide engineering support for plant operations and maintenance.
  • Build effective relationships with consultants, service providers, equipment manufacturers and internal stakeholders.
  • Functionally manage project engineers and mentor intermediate and graduate engineers.
  • Review and approve pre-construction wind analysis where required, including monitoring plans, resource assessments and energy yield assessments.
Relevant Experience
  • A tertiary Engineering qualification in Electrical or Renewable Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in detailed Solar PV power plant engineering and design.
  • In-depth knowledge of Solar PV component technology, project and solar resource evaluation, design methodologies and engineering techniques.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of relevant Australian Standards, particularly electrical and renewable energy standards.
  • Strong understanding of the balance between technical and commercial project outcomes.
  • High-level evaluation, analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within tight project timeframes.
  • Demonstrated capability to provide technical leadership and support other engineers.
