Job summary

Zone IT Solutions Pty Ltd in Sydney seeks a Lead PL/I Design and Development Consultant with extensive IBM mainframe experience to modernise and remediate large legacy systems.

You will deliver PL/I development on IBM mainframe, tackle complex migrations, troubleshoot issues, provide technical leadership, review code, and ensure quality across the full development lifecycle, including testing and performance tuning.

Qualifications

• Extensive PL/I development on IBM mainframe platforms.
• Typically 20+ years of mainframe experience.
• Strong experience in complex PL/I development, migration, remediation or modernisation.
• Deep expertise in VSAM and IBM MQ.
• Hands-on lifecycle experience from design to testing and deployment.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex legacy applications.
• Experience providing hands-on technical leadership and code reviews.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation and communication skills.

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead PL/I Design and Development Consultant with extensive expertise in IBM mainframe application development, VSAM and IBM MQ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex legacy application development, modernisation and remediation, preferably within banking, insurance or other regulated industries.

Required Skills and Experience

• Extensive commercial experience in PL/I development on IBM mainframe platforms.
• Typically 20+ years of relevant mainframe application experience.
• Strong experience delivering complex PL/I development, migration, remediation or modernisation projects.
• Deep technical expertise in VSAM and IBM MQ.
• Hands-on experience across the complete development lifecycle, from design and build through testing, implementation and performance tuning.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex legacy applications and resolve challenging technical issues.
• Experience providing hands-on technical leadership and conducting code reviews.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

Experience in banking, insurance or other complex, highly regulated enterprise environments is highly desirable.
