Job summary

XPT Software Australia PTY Ltd in Australia seeks a highly experienced Lead PL/I Design & Development Consultant to provide technical leadership to an existing development team. You will work hands-on with PL/I on IBM mainframe and drive complex design, performance tuning and solution delivery.

The role requires deep knowledge of VSAM, Db2, CICS, IBM MQ and experience in banking or regulated environments. You will mentor engineers and ensure high-quality architectural outcomes.

Qualifications

Extensive commercial PL/I design and development experience on IBM mainframe platforms.
Experience in complex, regulated environments such as banking or insurance is preferred.
Proven ability to lead design, troubleshooting and performance-tuning initiatives.
Strong communication skills and ability to mentor a development team.

Responsibilities

Lead analysis and detailed design of complex PL/I changes.
Direct hands-on development of high-risk PL/I components.
Review designs and code to ensure quality and reliability.
Diagnose performance issues and optimize PL/I applications.
Collaborate with team to estimate effort and plan delivery.
Transfer knowledge and strengthen PL/I capabilities within the team.
