Job summary

Whizdom seeks a highly experienced PL/I consultant to support a major database migration for a financial services client. You will lead complex design and development on IBM mainframes, deliver technical assurance, and guide a seasoned team through challenging engineering problems.

The role calls for hands-on leadership, deep PL/I expertise, and ability to manage large legacy systems. You will contribute to design reviews, testing readiness, and knowledge transfer, with a flexible Australia-wide

Qualifications

Extensive enterprise PL/I design and development experience on IBM mainframes.
20+ years in complex mainframe environments.
Experience with PL/I migration, remediation or modernization.
Knowledge of VSAM and IBM MQ.
Ability to modify large legacy applications and resolve difficult issues.
Hands-on leadership, design assurance and code review.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead technical analysis and detailed design for complex PL/I changes.
Develop high-risk PL/I components and analyse large online, batch and integration codebases.
Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and performance tuning.
Review designs and code, identify technical risks, and support testing and implementation readiness.
Provide hands-on technical leadership and knowledge transfer to the development team.
