Job summary

The University of Western Australia’s International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) seeks a Lead Engineer, Optical Systems. You will oversee free-space optical and optomechanical design across multiple programs and mentor engineers and researchers.

Responsibilities include setting technical requirements, budgets, coordinating field tests, and representing ICRAR in reviews with partners and government collaborators.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in optical science and engineering, photonics, physics or related discipline.
• Extensive experience and standing as an authority in optical and optomechanical system design.
• Experience with free-space optical terminals, alignment and testing.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority on free-space optical and optomechanical systems; set requirements, design standards and verification approaches.
• Manage delivery of optical engineering work packages across concurrent programs; set priorities, schedules and budgets; mentor staff and students.
• Lead design reviews, field and lab integration, and deployment/test campaigns across remote observatories and platforms.
