Job summary

Optus in Melbourne seeks a senior Network Observability Engineer to lead the deployment and ongoing management of probe infrastructure across 5G, 4G, voice, and cloud environments. You will transform telemetry into actionable insights and drive real-time visibility of network health and capacity.

You will shape tooling decisions, integrate data across OSS and analytics platforms, and mentor teams to advance observability capabilities and proactive issue resolution for millions of users.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in telecom networks across Core, RAN, Transport, IP/MPLS, 4G/5G and cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge of routing, SD-WAN, VPN, NFV/SDN and observability principles.
• Experience designing and deploying network monitoring using probe technologies (Polystar, Niometrics, Netscout).
• OSS integration with API, REST/JSON/XML across fault, performance, ticketing and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Lead deployment, configuration, and maintenance of network probe infrastructure for reliable telemetry and high availability.
• Manage lifecycle of probe technologies including planning, upgrades, vendor management, and security compliance.
• Drive telemetry strategy and real-time visibility into network health, capacity, and traffic patterns.
• Integrate probe data with OSS, analytics, and monitoring platforms via APIs and data pipelines.
• Analyse telemetry to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization.
• Develop automation, alerting, and reporting with Operations and Engineering teams to enable proactive management.
