Job summary

Virgin Australia is seeking an experienced IT Integration Lead to drive API, Java microservice delivery and event-driven integration projects. You will translate architecture into detailed designs, establish standards, and provide hands-on leadership across AWS, Kubernetes and API management.

You’ll mentor engineers, guide delivery, and partner with architects and product teams to ensure production readiness.

Qualifications

• Extensive software engineering experience with a focus on integration.
• Experience using AI coding assistants across design, development and testing.
• Ability to write clear technical context to produce repeatable AI outcomes.
• Hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with event-driven integration and Kafka.
• Kubernetes and cloud-based microservice environments experience.
• Translate architecture into physical design and guide delivery.
• Strong leadership and ability to mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of APIs, Java microservices and event-driven integration.
• Translate architectural concepts into detailed designs and plans.
• Establish integration standards, patterns and reusable assets.
• Provide technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes.
• Guide synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns (REST, SOAP, APIs).
• Lead discovery, estimations and delivery planning from design to deployment.
• Review designs and code for quality, security and performance.
• Use AI-assisted tools to improve discovery, design, testing and documentation.
• Create AI workflows and provide guidance for safe use.
• Coach and mentor engineers across onshore/offshore teams.
• Manage performance, contractor engagement and development planning.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, testers and SREs.
• Ensure production readiness, observability, CI/CD and support.
• Oversee releases and Level 3 support when needed.
