Job summary

The Onset Group is seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Lead in Sydney to own the entire IT and infrastructure stack. You will manage networking, cloud and on‑premise systems, and drive security, reliability and automation across the tech stack.

You'll shape the long-term infrastructure roadmap, oversee budgeting and vendor management, and build out the IT function as the business scales. This role requires broad capability and ownership mindset.

Qualifications

• Networking fundamentals with hands-on config of switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs
• Broad systems administration across Linux/Windows, virtualization and storage
• Strong Entra ID and Active Directory experience
• Cloud infrastructure experience, especially AWS
• Scripting and infrastructure automation experience
• Security fundamentals for identity, access, endpoints and infra
• Experience growing a business with ownership of systems
• Ability to balance hands-on work and long-term infrastructure planning

Responsibilities

• Own design and operation of the network environment, including switches, routing, firewalls, VLANs

• Support and improve AWS and on‑premise infrastructure, with focus on reliability, security and automation
• Manage Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, SSO, MFA, device management and access controls
• Implement practical security controls, improve infrastructure security and support compliance requirements
• Maintain the infrastructure supporting engineering teams, including compute resources, CI environments, storage and specialist equipment
• Take responsibility for infrastructure planning, vendors, budgets, documentation and scaling the IT function

Take complete ownership of IT and infrastructure for a fast-growing technology business.

We're partnering with a rapidly scaling technology company where software, hardware and advanced engineering come together.

This is an opportunity for a 100% hands-on infrastructure leader to take full ownership of the systems keeping the entire operation running, from complex networking, cloud and security through to the specialist infrastructure supporting engineering and production.

The business is growing quickly and needs someone who can bring structure, improve reliability and build an infrastructure environment capable of supporting that growth.

You'll have the autonomy to make technical decisions, shape the long-term infrastructure roadmap and build out the IT function as the business expands.

We're looking for someone with broad technical capability who has experience taking ownership of infrastructure across a business, rather than specialising in just one area.

What You'll Be Working On

Networking: Own the design and operation of the network environment, including switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs and network segmentation.

Infrastructure: Manage Linux and Windows environments, servers, virtualisation, storage, backups and disaster recovery.

Cloud: Support and improve AWS, DigitalOcean and on-premise infrastructure, with a focus on reliability, security and automation.

Identity & Endpoints: Manage Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, SSO, MFA, device management and access controls.

Security: Implement practical security controls, improve infrastructure security and support compliance requirements.

Engineering Systems: Maintain the infrastructure supporting technical teams, including compute resources, CI environments, storage and specialist equipment.

Strategy & Ownership: Take responsibility for infrastructure planning, vendors, budgets, documentation and scaling the IT function.

The key things we’re looking for:

Excellent networking fundamentals, including hands‑on experience configuring switches, routing, firewalls, VLANs and troubleshooting network issues.

Broad systems administration experience across Linux, Windows, virtualisation and storage.

Strong Microsoft identity experience, including Entra ID, Active Directory and hybrid environments.

Experience managing cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, alongside on‑premise systems.

Scripting and infrastructure automation experience.

Good security fundamentals across identity, access, endpoints and infrastructure.

Experience working in a growing business where you've built, improved or taken ownership of systems yourself.

The ability to move between hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving and longer‑term infrastructure planning.

Experience supporting engineering teams, specialist technical environments or complex on‑premise infrastructure would be particularly valuable.

Kubernetes, manufacturing systems and formal security compliance experience would also be useful, but aren't essential.
