Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Primary Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage primary and substation projects. You will mentor engineers, guide technical direction, and ensure compliance with standards across multi-disciplinary teams.

This senior role involves working with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient substations up to 500 kV, leveraging TransGrid/Powerlink practices where relevant, within a dynamic energy team.

Qualifications

• Must have demonstrable experience in primary and substation engineering.
• Experience with HV systems and related standards.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of high-voltage primary and substation projects.
• Provide technical mentoring across engineering teams.
• Ensure project design compliance with technical standards and governance.
• Coordinate with protection, control, civil, and secondary engineers.
• Interface with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to align requirements.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables and reports.
• Support tendering, planning, and cost estimation activities.
• Promote safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout projects.
• Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and value engineering.
