Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead/Principal Engineering Geologist to guide engineering geology and geotechnical inputs for mining and heavy haul rail projects. You will mentor junior staff, review work, and engage with client stakeholders to translate technical data into practical recommendations.

As a senior leader, you will champion design excellence, drive project governance and contribute to BD efforts while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Australia.

Qualifications

• 10–15+ years in engineering geology within mining, resources, infrastructure or heavy haul rail.
• Degree in Geology, Geoscience, Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong track record in mining projects and sustaining capital programs.
• Expertise in geological interpretation, earthworks, pavement design and ground conditions.
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary project teams and high-quality outputs.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and clear, confident communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering geology and geotechnical inputs across mining and rail projects.
• Provide technical direction for renewals and upgrade programs in rail and earthworks.
• Drive design solutions for pavement, ground improvement, slope stability and foundations.
• Review geological data and translate findings into actionable client recommendations.
• Build trusted relationships with major mining clients and contribute to strategy.
• Champion technical excellence through reviews, governance and QA.
• Mentor engineers and geologists to build broader team capability.
• Contribute to winning work and expand WSP's market presence.
