Job summary

Austal, based in Cairns, seeks an ECP Lead Engineer to provide technical leadership for Engineering Change Proposals across ISS contracts. Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Electrical engineering (Engineers Australia) or working towards professional registration.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sustainment, in-service or engineering change management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing engineering change proposals, engineering modifications or management of change activities.
  • Ability to achieve Austal Level 4 engineering delegation under the relevant authority.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and technical management of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) across ISS contracts.
  • Lead and coordinate the Management of Change (MoC) process for engineering changes, ensuring impacts are identified and addressed.
  • Manage the ECP pipeline, prioritising work, allocating tasks and monitoring progress for timely delivery.
  • Lead engineering investigations and develop technically sound recommendations for modifications, repairs, upgrades and other changes.
  • Define and coordinate the engineering basis and scope of proposed changes, including requirements, interfaces and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate input from SMEs, design authorities, technical authorities, suppliers, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct and coordinate technical risk assessments and engineering analyses for proposed changes.
  • Ensure ECPs and documentation are complete and progressed through approvals and governance processes.
  • Develop and manage engineering deviations and concessions as required.
  • Prepare and manage RPRs for identified engineering issues and proposed changes.
  • Coordinate updates to CAD drawings and schematics associated with ECPs and changes.
  • Ensure configuration, technical records and baselines are updated as part of change processes.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to Engineers and ISS team members.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of ECP, MoC and governance processes.
  • Attend client meetings, vessel inspections, investigations to support change development.
  • Provide clear technical advice to stakeholders with a strong customer focus.
  • Demonstrate proactive management of technical, safety, configuration and compliance risks.
