Job summary

NEPEAN Conveyors is seeking an experienced Lead Draftsman in Slade Point, Mackay to lead 3D Inventor modelling and 2D AutoCAD fabrication drawings for major conveyor projects.

Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, you will mentor junior draftspeople, manage task scopes, and drive continuous improvement of drawing standards while ensuring drawings meet project deadlines and safety standards. This role offers a leadership pathway within a respected Australian engineering business.

• Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor in mechanical or materials handling design.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models in Inventor to project requirements with minimal assistance.
• Open, modify and revise AutoCAD and Inventor drawings.
• Collate drawing packages and support drawing issue requirements.
• Ensure compliance with client, NEPEAN and Australian standards.
• Check drawings and detail from 3D Inventor models into 2D fabrication drawings.
• Coordinate team schedules and mentor junior draftspeople.
• Contribute to drawing standards, procedures and safe work practices.

About the role

NEPEAN Conveyors is currently seeking an experienced Lead Draftsman to join our team in Slade Point, Mackay. This is a hands‑on technical role supporting the delivery of 3D Inventor models, 2D AutoCAD drawings and detailed fabrication drawings for conveyor components and systems.

Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, you will lead drafting activities, manage task-focused scopes of work, support junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of drawing office standards and procedures. You will play an important role in ensuring drawings are accurate, compliant and delivered in line with project requirements.

What you’ll be doing

• Creating 3D models in Inventor to satisfy project requirements with minimal assistance.
• Opening, modifying and revising existing AutoCAD and Inventor drawings.
• Collating drawing packages and supporting drawing issue requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant client, NEPEAN and Australian standards.
• Checking drawings, completing back‑drafting and detailing from 3D Inventor models into 2D fabrication drawings.
• Managing team schedules, maintaining task‑oriented scopes of work and mentoring junior and intermediate draftspeople.
• Contributing to continuous improvement of drawing office standards, procedures and safe work practices.

About you

• You have experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor platforms, ideally within mechanical, structural or materials handling design.
• Experience with SolidWorks or other modelling software will also be highly regarded.
• A trade background in Boilermaking or Fitting would be advantageous, along with an understanding of conveyor equipment and safe work practices.
• You bring strong attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate, compliant drawings.
• You are organised, able to manage priorities effectively and comfortable working to project deadlines.
• You communicate clearly, work well with internal stakeholders and are confident supporting or mentoring less experienced team members.
