Job summary

Commonwealth Bank Of Australia in Melbourne CBD seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead independent review and validation of ML, statistical and GenAI models at scale, ensuring fit-for-purpose operation and robust risk controls.

You will collaborate with Data Science, Engineering and Governance stakeholders, shape validation tooling, and drive best validation practices across the Group’s AI initiatives, including partnerships with our AI Research Labs.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience developing, evaluating and validating ML/AI models.
• Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Actuarial Science or related field.
• Deep GenAI & agentic systems expertise with practical PyTorch and AWS SageMaker experience.
• Advanced coding in Python, R, TypeScript and AI tooling.
• Independent judgement and technical leadership with project guidance.
• Strong communication across governance forums and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent review and validation of ML/AI models across the Group.
• Assess fitness for purpose and risk controls; ensure appropriate governance.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Engineering and Governance teams; shape validation tooling.
• Drive and implement best validation practices, tooling and standards.
