Job summary

Commonwealth Bank’s Institutional Banking & Markets team seeks a Data Scientist to lead applied AI initiatives that drive measurable business impact across forecasting, trading and risk management.

In a hands-on role, you will connect advanced modelling with commercial objectives, working with engineering, risk and external partners to deliver safe, responsible AI outcomes at scale in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Delivered AI/ML solutions end-to-end from inception to production and monitoring.
• Ideally experience in financial markets, quantitative finance, forecasting, derivative pricing, trading or institutional banking.
• Strong hands-on expertise in machine learning, generative AI or agentic AI with Python/SQL.
• Able to design scalable, observable solutions aligned to risk and governance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives end-to-end, from problem definition and experimentation through production deployment and monitoring.
• Set technical direction while selecting appropriate tools and platforms.
• Translate complex commercial and markets problems into scalable ML/agentic AI solutions.
• Establish modelling governance, validation and monitoring to meet risk requirements.
• Partner with business, engineering, risk and governance teams and external partners.
• Develop data scientists and graduates through coaching and leadership.
• Drive integration between AI delivery, engineering and business processes.
• Influence senior stakeholders by linking technical decisions to commercial value.
• Design delivery patterns and ensure they are commercially viable and land in business.
• Apply model-risk judgement including data quality, explainability and drift monitoring.
