Job summary

Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) is seeking a Managing Principal Lawyer to lead the Criminal Law team on a full-time basis. The role provides authoritative criminal law advice to Operations, the Executive Director - Legal Operations, the Executive team and the Commissioner, and acts as the key liaison with the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP).

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Laws, extensive criminal law and prosecutions experience, a current

Qualifications

Criminal law experience essential; 10+ years post admission preferred.
Practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law or eligible to acquire.
Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer, or eligibility to gain admission.
Experience managing a team of legal practitioners; Australian citizenship and Negative Vetting 1 clearance required.

Responsibilities

Provide authoritative criminal law advice to Operations, the Executive Director - Legal & Compliance, the Executive team and the Commissioner.
Build and maintain relationships with the OPP, the courts, and external agencies involved in prosecutions; be the key contact on prosecutions.
Appear in court as advocate in IBAC's prosecutions (e.g., interlocutory applications, bail, sentences) where appropriate.
Supervise and mentor other lawyers in Legal Operations on criminal law matters.
