Job summary

Nearmap, a leading Australian global technology company, seeks a Principal Cloud Platform Engineer toOwn the cloud foundation for Nearmap AI and lead a small engineering team. You’ll set the infrastructure direction, manage Kubernetes fleets across AWS/GCP, and ensure cost-efficient, secure, scalable operations.

You’ll also collaborate with the AI Platform Engineer and Platform teams to standardize patterns across the company.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software or infrastructure engineering
• 4+ years building large-scale cloud platforms or distributed systems
• Proven experience leading technical projects and mentoring a team
• Deep production-level Kubernetes design, build and operation
• Hands-on IaC with Terraform or Pulumi on AWS/GCP
• Strong grounding in cloud networking, IAM, and secrets management
• Production-grade Python or Go for platform tooling
• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Own cloud infrastructure direction across AWS/GCP; design Kubernetes fleet on EKS/GKE
• Operate GPU-capable compute; manage node pools, drivers, autoscaling, multi-tenant isolation
• Lead and mentor a small platform engineering team; own hiring
• Write and own Terraform for the footprint; build self-service provisioning
• Build CI/CD and observability foundations: pipelines, metrics, logs, traces
• Own reliability and cost: SLOs, cloud spend, capacity, incidents; on-call
• Co-own standards with Platform team (ETO) to scale patterns across Nearmap
