Job summary

Lithgow City Council is seeking a Building and Development Officer in Lithgow, NSW. Reporting to the Team Leader - Building, you will undertake building control work including pre-lodgement advice and building certification, and process all applications and certificates allocated to the position.

The role requires independent assessment within delegated authority, liaison with developers and staff, preparation of detailed reports, and duties as Principal Certifier.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in building surveying or related discipline.
• Eligible for Building Surveyor accreditation (NSW) or Certifier status.
• Experience in Local Government Building Control and relevant regulations.
• Knowledge of Environmental Planning & Assessment Regulations 2021.
• Experience with critical stage inspections across building classes.
• Hold a White Card (NSW).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to liaise with stakeholders and use NSW Planning Portal, MS Office, GIS.
• Willingness to learn and pursue A1-A2 Accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Assess development applications and certificates under statutory requirements.
• Provide professional advice, reports, and correspondence on development proposals.
• Participate in Building & Development Planning Team duties under supervision.
• Maintain documentation in line with policies and legislation.
• Carry out duties as Principal Certifier when appointed.
• Liaise with developers and staff to support planning activities.
