Job summary

Safe Planet seeks a hands-on Lead Air Conditioning Installer to own residential ducted and multi-split projects in Melbourne. You will lead a crew of 2–3 installers, plan each installation, read site plans and coordinate with trades to deliver high-quality work.

This practical leadership role requires ensuring safety, adhering to Australian Standards, and timely completion with strong support from our Epping head office. Immediate start and company vehicle offered.

Qualifications

About Safe Planet

Established in 2019, Safe Planet is an Accredited Provider (AP) under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program, specialising in energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

With our head office and warehouse based in Epping, we have built a strong presence in the industry and continue to expand our in-house installation operations.

We have a consistent pipeline of residential ducted, multi-split and other heating and cooling installations, supported by dedicated sales, administration and operations teams.

As part of our continued growth, we're looking for an experienced Lead Air Conditioning Installer who can take ownership of installations, lead a crew and deliver high-quality work from start to finish.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly capable, hands-on air conditioning installer who can confidently lead a crew of 2–3 people and independently manage residential ducted and multi-split installations.

This is a hands-on leadership role, not an office-based supervisory position.

You’ll be responsible for planning installations, coordinating your crew, solving technical challenges and ensuring jobs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

You’ll be supported by our installation management team, office staff and Epping warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently lead residential ducted and multi-split installations from start to finish.
• Work hands-on alongside your installation crew.
• Plan daily installations and delegate tasks effectively.
• Read site plans and determine efficient installation methods.
• Oversee indoor and outdoor unit positioning, pipework, ductwork, drainage and associated installation work.
• Identify materials and equipment requirements before each job.
• Troubleshoot technical challenges and make practical on-site decisions.
• Coordinate with licensed refrigeration mechanics, electricians and other trades.
• Ensure installations comply with applicable Australian Standards, manufacturer specifications and safety requirements.
• Maintain excellent workmanship and minimise defects, rework and return visits.
• Complete installation photos, quality checks and customer handovers.
• Take ownership of completing scheduled installations on time.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience installing residential ducted and multi-split air conditioning systems.
• Proven experience independently leading complete air conditioning installations.
• Ability to confidently supervise and work alongside a crew of 2–3 installers.
• Strong understanding of air conditioning installation methods, pipework, ductwork and drainage.
• Ability to interpret installation plans and organise jobs independently.
• Excellent technical troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• High standards of workmanship, safety and attention to detail.
• Reliable, accountable and capable of working without constant supervision.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence.

Highly Regarded

• Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
• Current ARC Refrigerant Handling Licence.
• Experience with VRF systems.
• Experience with Midea, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Hisense or similar brands.
• Experience mentoring apprentices and junior installers.
