Job summary

A Melbourne-based law firm seeks an experienced litigation solicitor to handle a broad range of commercial and civil disputes for individuals, businesses and corporate clients. You will work with an experienced Partner, enjoy autonomy, direct client contact, and ownership from instruction through to resolution.

Key responsibilities include advising, managing matters, drafting pleadings, conducting research, preparing for hearings and trials, and briefing counsel.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in Victoria with 3–4+ years post-admission litigation experience.
• Strong civil/commercial litigation experience with autonomous matter management.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on a broad range of commercial and civil disputes.
• Manage litigation and dispute resolution matters from start to finish.
• Draft pleadings, statements of claim, defences, affidavits, and other court documents.
• Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical advice to clients.
• Prepare matters for interlocutory applications, mediations, directions hearings, and trials.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings where appropriate.
• Manage discovery, subpoenas, and other litigation processes.
• Brief and coordinate with barristers and external practitioners.
• Develop litigation strategies that achieve commercially sensible outcomes for clients.
• Manage client relationships and provide regular updates on matter progress.

You will work closely with an experienced Partner on a broad range of high-quality commercial and civil litigation matters, acting for individuals, businesses, and corporate clients across a variety of disputes. This role offers strong autonomy, direct client contact, and the opportunity to take ownership of matters from initial instruction through to resolution, while being supported by experienced practitioners.

Key responsibilities

• Advising clients on a broad range of commercial and civil disputes
• Managing litigation and dispute resolution matters from commencement through to completion
• Drafting pleadings, statements of claim, defences, affidavits, correspondence, submissions, and other court documents
• Conducting legal research and providing clear, practical advice to clients
• Preparing matters for interlocutory applications, mediations, directions hearings, and trials
• Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings where appropriate
• Managing discovery, evidence, subpoenas, and other litigation processes
• Briefing and working effectively with barristers and other external practitioners
• Developing litigation strategies that achieve commercially sensible outcomes for clients
• Managing client relationships and providing regular updates on matter progress

About you

• Admitted to practice in Victoria
• 3–4+ years post-admission experience in litigation
• Strong experience in civil and/or commercial litigation
• Demonstrated experience managing matters with a high degree of autonomy
• Strong advocacy, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
• Experience appearing in courts and tribunals will be highly regarded
• Experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution
• Strong legal research and analytical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines
• Commercially minded with a practical and strategic approach to dispute resolution
