Job summary

IAG is seeking a highly capable lawyer to work with marketing, digital and growth teams in Australia. You will deliver commercially focused legal advice and governance across marketing, privacy and technology, with mentoring from senior lawyers.

The role is a 12-month max-term in Sydney or Melbourne, offering flexible work options and strong professional development. Requiring 4+ years PQE, the role emphasises advisory skills, drafting, and negotiation, plus the ability to manage multiple

Qualifications

  • 4+ years PQE, at top tier private practice or large listed companies.
  • Well-developed legal skills including advisory, drafting and negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge in marketing/consumer law, privacy/spam and digital; IP/tech drafting valued.
  • Able to triage multiple priorities and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder and project management abilities.
  • Insurance/financial services background preferred but not essential.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and leveraging technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support for marketing, digital and growth initiatives aligned with IAG’s strategy.
  • Build deep relationships with business peers, especially digital and marketing teams.
  • Advise on regulatory changes and market best practice in key functional areas.
  • Deliver high-quality, strategic and commercially-focused governance advice.

In this role you will work closely with the business and provide commercially focused, fast paced legal advice in the key functional areas of: marketing/consumer law, privacy/spam, digital, technology and commercial contracting.

This is a 12 month max term opportunity based in Gadigal Country (Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne)

What You'll Do
  • Provide legal support for a broad range of exciting marketing, digital and growth-related initiatives in support of IAG’s customer growth strategy, with mentoring and support from senior lawyers.
  • Establish deep and effective relationships with peers and business partners (including the digital and marketing teams) to understand their business drivers and strategic priorities.
  • Advise IAG, including monitoring legislative/regulatory changes and market best practice, in key functional areas
  • Provide high quality, strategic, pragmatic and commercially focused legal and governance advice to business partners and peers.
What You'll Bring
  • 4+ years PQE, at top tier private practice or large listed companies.
  • Well-developed legal skills (e.g. written and oral communication, advisory, drafting and negotiation).
  • Well-developed knowledge in the areas of marketing/consumer law, privacy/spam and digital. Experience in intellectual property, technology and commercial drafting highly regarded.
  • Ability to triage multiple priorities and work autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Well developed stakeholder and project management skills.
  • An understanding of general insurance and/or the broader financial services industry preferred by not essential.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and development, including leveraging technology to provide legal services more efficiently
