Thomsons in Brisbane seeks a Lawyer or Associate with 2-5 years PAE to join our corporate team. You will work closely with Partners on M&A transactions, equity & debt capital markets, joint ventures and governance, delivering pragmatic legal advice to corporate clients.

The role emphasizes hands-on ownership of deals, strong contract drafting and due diligence, and collaboration across practice areas. Brisbane-based with opportunities for growth within a leading national firm.

Qualifications

• Solid experience with M&A transactions, preferably mid-market, through mid/top-tier firms.
• Ability to manage M&A transactions with autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Work on M&A transactions and equity/debt capital markets within the corporate team.

The Role

We are currently looking for a Lawyer or Associate with 2-5 years PAE to join our corporate team in Brisbane. This position will work closely with experienced and respected Partners, who specialise in:

• M&A transactions;
• Equity & debt capital markets;
• Joint ventures;
• Corporate governance;
• Restructures; and
• General commercial and corporate contracts.

Our ideal candidate will need to

• Have solid experience and exposure to M&A transactions as well as a strong background in Corporate Advisory / Mergers & Acquisitions with a mid-market focus preferably, through experience gained in mid to top-tier firms;
• Have the ability and desire to pro-actively manage M&A transactions with a high level of autonomy;
• Be able to work collaboratively in a team, including delegating to and assisting with the development of junior lawyers in the team and engaging with other specialist practice areas within the firm;
• Have solid experience with legal due diligence including drafting due diligence reports;
• Experience with reviewing and drafting contracts;
• Possess a willingness to have a hands-on approach as a client-focused practitioner, with great relationship-building and communication skills;
• Possess a willingness and ability to understand clients' commercial needs and objectives and provide solutions to achieve these;
• Provide sound, pragmatic and innovative legal advice to the firm's corporate clients;
• Good contract drafting skills, legal analysis and problem solving skills to varied situations;
• Have excellent attention to detail, analytical skills which will be backed up by strong academics; and
• A thirst to develop as this is a role that offers genuine career development.
