Job summary

East Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a Landfill Plant Operator to support the Bairnsdale Landfill on a 0.71 EFT, limited tenure position from December 2026 to December 2027, based at the Bairnsdale Landfill. You will work 7 days on, 7 days off, with weekend work on-site.

You will safely operate heavy plant and equipment, manage disposal and diversion of waste, and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. A strong focus on safety and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience operating landfill plant and heavy equipment.
• HR competency qualifications and licences as listed in the position description.
• Knowledge of landfill operations, safety, environmental and compliance requirements.
• Strong customer service and communication with the public and staff.
• Ability to physically perform the role.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain heavy plant and equipment used in landfill operations.
• Operate Watercart for dust suppression on site.
• Manage disposal of waste and divert recyclables to appropriate areas.
• Direct customers to disposal/recycling areas and provide courteous service.
• Maintain the landfill site including roads, drainage, cleanliness and stockpiles.
