Job summary

MAPEI is opening a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Truganina, Victoria, and seeks a Laboratory Technician to test and inspect products to ensure quality and reliability.

Based in Truganina, you will operate manual and automatic testing equipment, document results, and assist with non-conformities while supporting the QC team.

Qualifications

• Science-related qualification, preferably in chemistry.
• Previous experience in a similar role.
• Basic computer skills incl. Excel.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Communicate immediately to supervision any quality concerns.
• Set up and perform tests on raw materials and products.
• Document data and log in QC records accurately.
• Organise retained samples and collect incoming material documents.
• Participate in quality activities and investigations of non-conformities.
• Assist with processing non-conforming products and quarantine stock.

About the Opportunity

Based in Truganina, the Laboratory Technician will safely and efficiently test and inspect products according to MAPEI’s standards. This will be conducted using automatic and manual testing equipment, hand tools and instruments, in order to evaluate the properties of the raw materials and finished goods with the goal to assure the quality and reliability of products.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Communicate immediately to the Process operator, Production Manager or any member of management all circumstances which may affect quality or are considered questionable and unacceptable
• Set up and perform all necessary tests and inspections on the raw materials and products at specified stages in production process, in order to determine variables, such as dimensions, performance, chemical and physical properties and other characteristics
• Document data obtained during testing of raw materials or finished products and log correctly in QC record
• Organise retained samples, collect and check documents for incoming materials, if applicable
• Participate in all quality activities, such as preparation and testing of lab batches, investigation of non-conformities, evaluation of alternative raw materials, preparation of various certificates
• Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality activities
• Assist with the processing of non-conforming products and returned goods
• Assist with controlling and reducing quarantine stock
• Assist Technical Service in the investigation and verification of complaints due to finished products.

About You

• Self-motivated and able to work independently
• Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to think on your feet and have a problem solving mindset
• An excellent communicator, both verbally and written.

What You Bring

• Previous experience within a similar role, ideally within the same industry
• Science related Qualifications, preferably in Chemistry
• Basic keyboard skills and knowledge of computers and relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
