Job summary

Mapei is opening a state-of-the-art LABORATORY TECHNICIAN position in Truganina, Victoria, to test and inspect products for quality and reliability. You will use automatic and manual testing equipment to evaluate raw materials and finished goods.

The role requires self-motivation, strong organisation, and excellent communication. You will join a global company expanding its Melbourne operation as part of a 87-year legacy and growth plans.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role within the same industry.
• Science-related qualifications, preferably in Chemistry.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Test and inspect products using automatic and manual equipment to ensure quality and reliability.
• Set up and perform tests on raw materials and products at various production stages.
• Document data and log QC records accurately.
• Organise retained samples and verify incoming materials documentation.
• Participate in quality activities and investigate non-conformities.
• Assist with non-conforming products and quarantine stock management.

About the Opportunity

Based in Truganina, the Laboratory Technician will safely and efficiently test and inspect products according to MAPEI's standards. This will be conducted using automatic and manual testing equipment, hand tools and instruments, in order to evaluate the properties of the raw materials and finished goods with the goal to assure the quality and reliability of products.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Communicate immediately to the Process operator, Production Manager or any member of management all circumstances which may affect quality or are considered questionable and unacceptable
• Set up and perform all necessary tests and inspections on the raw materials and products at specified stages in production process, in order to determine variables, such as dimensions, performance, chemical and physical properties and other characteristics
• Document data obtained during testing of raw materials or finished products and log correctly in QC record
• Organise retained samples, collect and check documents for incoming materials, if applicable
• Participate in all quality activities, such as preparation and testing of lab batches, investigation of non-conformities, evaluation of alternative raw materials, preparation of various certificates
• Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality activities
• Assist with the processing of non-conforming products and returned goods
• Assist with controlling and reducing quarantine stock
• Assist Technical Service in the investigation and verification of complaints due to finished products.

An excellent communicator, both verbally and written.

What You Bring

Previous experience within a similar role, ideally within the same industry

Science related Qualifications, preferably in Chemistry

Basic keyboard skills and knowledge of computers and relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
