Job summary

Boral Asphalt in Cairns is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team. You will conduct physical testing, perform field sampling, calibrate equipment and maintain strict safety and quality records for asphalt and aggregate products.

The role involves a mix of laboratory and site work with day/night shifts and occasional weekend work, supporting a leading national construction materials provider committed to excellence.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical skill and a commitment to safety and quality.
• Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised in the laboratory.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Flexibility to work across day and night shifts, including weekends when required.
• Previous construction materials laboratory experience preferred.
• Understanding of computer systems for monitoring and reporting data.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical testing in accordance with laboratory work instructions and test methods.
• Field sampling and testing on project sites.
• Calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain safety and compliance with statutory requirements in the lab.
• Assist in maintaining the laboratory according to accreditation standards (NATA).

Excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual to join our Asphalt business as a Laboratory Technician based in Cairns.

The main focus of this position will be in undertaking tasks in relation to sampling, mechanical testing, physical analysis, maintenance of records, reporting of results for our aggregate and asphalt related products.

This is a permanent rostered role covering day and night shifts, with weekend work required from time to time.

Your day will involve

• Conduct physical testing in accordance with laboratory work instructions, test methods, preparation instructions and manuals
• Field sampling and testing on project sites
• Calibration of laboratory equipment
• Maintain, observe, and take part in the statutory safety requirements of the Laboratory operation
• Assist in the maintenance of the Laboratory according to NATA accreditation requirements
• Other duties as directed

What are we looking for

• Flexibility to work Monday to Sunday and on shift work when required
• Availability to work on project sites away from home
• Strong analytical skill and a commitment to safety and quality
• Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised in the laboratory
• Previous construction materials laboratory experience is preferred
• Understanding of computer systems for monitoring and reporting of data
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Valid Australian driver's licence
