Programmed is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician in Ballarat to join our food production and quality teams. The role focuses on hands-on microbiological and chemical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to support production targets.

You will work with the production and quality teams, maintain calibration of equipment, adhere to HACCP and GMP standards, and report test results with clarity while upholding a safe, collaborative working environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Food Science/Science).
  • 1–3 years of microbiological testing experience.
  • Exposure to lab practices in a manufacturing context.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Physically fit to stand for long periods and lift weights as required.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Job description

We're on the lookout for a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with previous experience in a food production or laboratory setting who is eager to contribute to a team that values precision, quality, and collaboration.


What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a food factory environment-and a strong understanding of manufacturing and lab processes. You should be a team player with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the physical capability to meet the demands of the role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct routine microbiological and chemical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products

  • Adhere to HACCP and GMP site hygiene standards at all times

  • Accurately record, interpret, and report test results, escalating any anomalies as needed

  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring quality and compliance standards are met

  • Work collaboratively with production and quality teams to ensure testing supports operational targets

  • Contribute to a clean and safe working environment in both lab and factory areas


About You:


  • Must have a Bachelor of Food Science and Technology or Bachelor of Science (majoring in Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biotech

  • MUST have 1-3 years of microbiological testing experience

  • Previous exposure to laboratory practices and procedures in a manufacturing context

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

  • Able to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels of the business

  • Physically fit - capable of standing for extended periods and lifting weights as required

  • Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and a strong work ethic

  • Committed to teamwork and supporting a culture of continuous improvement
