Job summary

KE Select is partnering with a private pathology organisation to recruit an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee operations across Gateshead and Maitland in the Newcastle region. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with operational management and staff development.

The successful candidate will lead day-to-day lab operations, provide expertise across Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, Blood Bank/Transfusion and Microbiology, and drive high standards of quality and service

Qualifications

• Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum five years as Senior Medical Scientist in a clinical pathology setting.
• Strong knowledge across Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology.
• Experience with blood bank and emergency transfusion protocols.
• Previous leadership or supervision in a lab environment.
• Solid understanding of NATA, NPAAC, ANZSBT and quality/safety standards.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient with LIS and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and ensure workflow efficiency.
• Provide technical expertise across Haematology, Coagulation, Biochemistry, Blood Bank/Transfusion and Microbiology.
• Lead, mentor and develop laboratory staff to high performance.
• Coordinate staff rostering, workload allocation and resources.
• Maintain compliance with quality management, safety and accreditation standards.
• Collaborate with pathologists and senior management on objectives.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
