Job summary

Fulton Hogan is recruiting a materials tester for our Tynong Quarry site. The role suits entry level or experienced candidates seeking a step forward in their career.

You will test aggregates to Australian standards in our NATA laboratory, reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor and handling sampling, testing, reporting, and calibration tasks along with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Professional communication, written and interpersonal skills.
• Honest, confident and reliable.
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality and punctuality.
• Current and valid Driver’s Licence.
• Experience in heavy industries or interest in quarry work.
• Knowledge of Australian standards for laboratories (advantageous).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; QESTLAB experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Test aggregates to Australian standard methods in the NATA laboratory.
• Sampling and testing of aggregates; day-to-day management of sampling/testing.
• Manage reporting, records, calibrations and non-conforming product.
• Safe procedures and good housekeeping in the laboratory and surrounds.
• Provide technical support to production departments.
• Maintain laboratory compliance with NATA requirements.
• Occasional travel as required by the business.

We currently have a full-time vacancy for a materials tester to join the team at Fulton Hogan based at Tynong Quarry. This position will suit either entry level or experienced candidates looking to take the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing of aggregates to Australian standard methods in our NATA Laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor your responsibilities will include;

• Sampling and testing of aggregates.
• The hands-on, day-to-day management of sampling and testing in accordance with specified requirements.
• The handling and management of chemicals in line with relevant standards
• Management of reporting, record keeping and calibrations including reporting non-conforming product.
• Conduct procedures safely and maintain good housekeeping of laboratory and surrounds.
• Providing technical support to production departments.
• Maintain the laboratory in accordance with NATA requirements.
• Some travel will be required, based on the needs of the business.

To be successful in this position you will require the following skills/experience:

• Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and achieve strict deadlines.
• Professional communication, written and interpersonal skills
• Honest, confident and reliable
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality, punctuality, reliability, respect for others and to work as part of an efficient team
• Current and valid Driver’s Licence
• Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques (is advantageous)
• Previous experience in heavy industries or an interest in this field of work
• Ideally you will have an understanding of the quarry industry. Having a demonstrated knowledge of Australian standards for laboratories would be viewed favourably but not essential as full training will be provided.
• You will be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Experience of QESTLAB would be advantageous.
