Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript development skills and TDD knowledge.

• Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud hosting platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).

Senior Software Engineer II - Backend

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to take a leading role in designing and delivering complex software solutions.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position for someone who enjoys building robust backend systems, solving challenging integration problems and helping other engineers deliver high-quality work.

You’ll contribute to architecture and implementation, establish engineering standards, and collaborate with delivery and project stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, secure and maintainable.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the architecture, planning and implementation of complex backend solutions across multiple codebases.
• Develop, integrate and maintain services using TypeScript and modern API technologies.
• Build and consume REST and GraphQL APIs, including secure authentication and event-driven integrations.
• Configure and maintain webhooks, data payload transformations and integrations between external systems.
• Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing and development practices.
• Participate in code reviews, technical workshops and design discussions.
• Mentor engineers and provide guidance on complex technical challenges.
• Work closely with delivery and project stakeholders to identify risks, manage dependencies and keep technical work on track.
• Contribute to technical documentation, specifications and continuous improvements to team processes.
• Support cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code practices and CI/CD pipelines.

What You'll Bring

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript development skills and a solid understanding of test-driven development.
• Experience building, consuming and troubleshooting REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Practical experience configuring and maintaining webhooks and event-driven integrations.
• Understanding of authentication methods, including OAuth 2.0, API keys, basic authentication and token refresh flows.
• Experience working with JSON and XML payloads, including data mapping and transformation.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud hosting platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS or Azure.
• Experience with Terraform or a comparable infrastructure-as-code solution.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling, such as GitHub Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines.
• Strong Git and version control practices, with an appreciation for documented development environments.
• The ability to lead technical discussions, review code and support the development of other engineers.

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless commerce platforms, such as commercetools or headless Shopify.
• Exposure to headless CMS platforms, including Contentful or Contentstack.
• Experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERPs, payment providers and loyalty platforms.
• Familiarity with integration platform as a service (iPaaS) tools such as Celigo or Workato.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or AWS CloudWatch.
• Understanding of the Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) design pattern.
