Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking an L2 Network Infrastructure Engineer to support operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of critical network assets across its data centre footprint. You will work with internal teams, enterprise customers and vendor partners to drive network availability and peak performance.

You will troubleshoot routing, switching, VPNs and network services, and contribute to deployments, migrations and documentation in a production environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in an L2 Network Engineer, Network Infrastructure Engineer or Network Operations role.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, LAN/WAN, routing and switching.
• Hands-on experience with BGP, OSPF, VLANs and VPNs.
• Experience supporting Cisco, Juniper or similar enterprise networking platforms.
• Exposure to data centre networking, fibre connectivity or telecommunications infrastructure advantageous.
• Experience troubleshooting network incidents within production environments.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools, ticketing systems and ITIL processes.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across technical and customer-facing teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide Level 2 technical support across enterprise and data centre network infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents involving routing, switching, connectivity and network performance.
• Support the configuration, maintenance and optimisation of network devices and services.
• Monitor network infrastructure, investigate alerts and escalate complex incidents where required.
• Assist with network deployments, upgrades, migrations and infrastructure changes.
• Work with internal engineering teams, customers and vendors to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain technical documentation, network diagrams and operational procedures.
• Support incident, problem and change management processes.

Desirable Skills:

• Data centre or colocation infrastructure environments.
• Carrier networks, dark fibre, optical networking or DWDM.
• Network automation and scripting.
• Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS or equivalent certifications.
