Job summary

Crystalbrook Bailey in Cairns is seeking a detail‑focused Kitchen Steward to support our busy kitchen team. You will help keep dishes, utensils and spaces clean, receive deliveries, manage stock and assist chefs across services.

Reliability, a positive attitude and willingness to learn are valued; food safety certification is preferred or a commitment to obtain it. Rotating roster includes nights and weekends in a vibrant, guests‑first hotel environment.

Qualifications

• Must have practical approach to maintaining a clean, organised workspace.
• Comfort with commercial dishwashers and cleaning equipment.
• Understanding of kitchen hygiene and safe chemical handling.
• Ability to stay organised and pace with busy service periods.

Responsibilities

• Keep culinary spaces, plates and utensils clean and ready for service.
• Receive deliveries, organize stock and manage waste responsibly.
• Support chefs and fellow stewards to ensure smooth service periods.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen.

The Opportunity:

There is a rhythm to a busy kitchen, and our Kitchen Stewards help keep it moving. Working alongside our chefs, you will be part of the action behind every service, keeping our culinary spaces clean, organised and ready for the next order.

From making sure clean plates and utensils are always within reach to keeping equipment and work areas in excellent condition, your work will make a difference throughout the day. You will also help receive deliveries, organise stock and manage waste responsibly, supporting a kitchen where people can work safely and deliver food they are proud of.

The Talent:

You enjoy keeping busy, working with others and the satisfaction of a job done properly. You notice when something needs attention and are happy to step in, whether that means clearing a growing stack of dishes or helping put a delivery away. Previous experience is welcome, but reliability, a positive approach and a willingness to learn are just as valuable.

You will bring:

• A practical approach and pride in keeping your workspace clean and organised.
• Confidence using commercial dishwashers and cleaning equipment, or a willingness to learn.
• An understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety, with care when handling cleaning chemicals.
• The ability to stay organised and keep pace during busy services.
• A cooperative approach and willingness to support chefs and fellow stewards.
• Availability across a rotating roster, including nights and weekends.
• Food Safety Certification, or a willingness to obtain it.
