Job summary

SecondBite is seeking a reliable Production Assistant to join our kitchen team in Morningside, Brisbane. You will support meal production, maintain high food safety standards, and help keep the kitchen organised. This is a part-time position with hours Monday to Thursday, 1:00 pm–9:00 pm.

You should have experience in a commercial kitchen, a Food Handling Certificate, and a proactive, team-focused approach. Applicants must meet pre‑employment checks and health & safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in a commercial kitchen or food service environment.
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Food Handling Certificate is desirable.
• Ability to undertake the physical tasks associated with kitchen production.
• Strong teamwork, communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation and meal production in a busy kitchen environment.
• Follow established kitchen procedures and food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Handle, store and rotate food appropriately to maintain quality and minimise waste.
• Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.
• Organise and store kitchen equipment and supplies in accordance with procedures.
• Monitor stock and support inventory control.
• Identify and report equipment faults, hazards or safety concerns.
• Work collaboratively with chefs, volunteers and others to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Contribute to a positive, safe and respectful workplace.
• Undertake other duties as directed by your manager.
