VDG Services is seeking experienced Kitchen Hands/Utilities for permanent, full-time roles in Sydney’s prestigious 5-star hotels. You will support chefs with food prep, plate-up, dishwashing and kitchen cleaning, while helping maintain clean and hygienic back-of-house areas.

These roles focus on kitchen operations, stewarding and cleaning, not hotel housekeeping, with rotating shifts and weekend availability.

Qualifications

• Experience as Kitchen Hand, Steward, Dishwasher or Utility Attendant is essential.
• Experience in hotel, restaurant or high-volume kitchen is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of food safety, HACCP and workplace safety.
• Able to assist with food prep and plate-up when required.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, plate-up and cooking tasks when required.
• Organise and maintain cooking equipment, utensils and kitchen supplies.
• Wash plates, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen utensils.
• Operate commercial dishwashers and kitchen equipment safely.
• Perform stewarding duties to support hotel kitchens and F&B outlets.
• Clean and sanitise kitchens, food prep areas and equipment.
• Perform routine and deep cleaning of kitchen areas.
• Maintain clean storerooms and back-of-house areas.
• Handle cleaning chemicals safely and follow procedures.
• Follow food safety, HACCP and WHS requirements.
• Report damaged equipment and hazards to supervisors.
• Complete cleaning schedules and checklists to standard.

About the role

We are seeking experienced Kitchen Hands / Utilities Team Members for permanent, full-time positions at prestigious 5-star hotels in Sydney CBD.

These roles combine kitchen hand duties, dishwashing, stewarding and commercial kitchen cleaning. You will assist chefs with food preparation, plate-up, organising cooking equipment and cooking when required. You will also maintain clean, hygienic and organised kitchens and back-of-house areas.

These positions focus on kitchen operations, stewarding and cleaning, not hotel housekeeping.

Available Shifts

• AM, PM and overnight shifts
• Permanent, full-time positions
• Weekend availability required
• Flexible availability across a seven-day rotating roster

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, plate-up and cooking tasks when required.
• Organise and maintain cooking equipment, utensils and kitchen supplies.
• Wash plates, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen utensils.

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Hand, Steward, Dishwasher, Utility Attendant or Commercial Cleaner is essential.
• Experience in a hotel, restaurant or high-volume commercial kitchen is highly regarded.
• Understanding of commercial kitchen equipment, dishwashing and cleaning procedures.
• Knowledge of food safety, HACCP, chemical handling and workplace health and safety.
• Ability to assist with food preparation and plate-up when required.
• Good presentation, communication skills and English proficiency.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Availability for rotating AM, PM and overnight shifts, including weekends.
• Current Australian working rights.
