Job summary

Northern Health is seeking an experienced Hospital Coordinator for Kilmore District Hospital. The role oversees hospital operations, clinical leadership, bed management and patient flow, coordinating with clinicians and managers to ensure efficient service delivery.

The successful candidate will have RN or Midwife registration with AHPRA, at least 5 years acute nursing experience, and experience as Bed Manager or Hospital Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Oversee management of hospital operations and clinical/non-clinical emergency responses.
• Coordinate patient flow, bed management and workforce allocation.
• Support clinicians in patient care, deterioration management and progression of care.
• Escalate to Site Manager/Director on call as required.
• Lead and coordinate cross-disciplinary teams during peak periods.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Community Hospital, Mernda Community Hospital, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg

About the Role

The Hospital Coordinator is an experienced nurse with highly developed skills in clinical leadership, clinical practice, problem solving, decision making and communications. The Hospital Coordinator is responsible for the management of hospital operations, clinical and non-clinical emergency situations. They will work with clinicians and managers to coordinate patient flow, bed management and effective workforce allocation. They have a lead role in supporting clinicians to effectively manage patient care, clinical deterioration and progression of care. The Hospital Coordinator will escalate to the Site Manager, Director of Access or Executive on call as required.

To be successful in this role you will have

• Current Registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, with AHPRA
• At least 5 years acute clinical nursing experience
• Previous experience working as Bed Manager or Hospital Coordinator
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving and conflict management skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead others and negotiate creative solutions
• Ability to utilise both analytical skills and conceptual thinking to identify and resolve issues
• Commitment to collaborative practice and life-long learning
• Ability to anticipate and assess the impact of changes in utilisation patterns to one part of the system on the overall system
• Ability to assess complex situations and make appropriate management decisions
• Ability to demonstrate and implement the principle of Continuous Quality Improvement in relation to service delivery

• Able to work under own initiative and demonstrates confidence in leading staff during demand pressures
